This album has a very strange history. It was originally released as Donald Byrd & Pepper Adams "Out of This World" album in 1961 on tiny Warwick Records. Soon on the wave of growing Hancock's popularity it was re-released as Hancock's album by few labels and with different album names ("Jamming With Herbie" or "Rock Your Soul"). And even more - even if all album versions contain mostly same compositions (some later CD re-releases have bonus tracks), almost all of them were renamed for Hancock's album!

Speaking about music, this album is (as it was originally planned) very much Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams release. They play quite relaxed a bit melancholic hard bop, competent but too safe and a bit old fashioned. Hancock provides competent piano and possibly the only reason why this album could be interesting for Hancock fans is you can find here some his early musicianship examples.

Album for collectors or Donald Byrd heavy fans mostly.
