Along with Brad Felt we are remembering the fine Detroit visual artist Charles McGee, who died last week at 96. When Brad was putting his “Exordium” CD project together in the mid-1990s, he visited the McGee studio with photographer Bill McNeece. Two of those photos appeared on (the front and back of) the CD package, with some of Mr. McGee’s art in the background. I combined photos from that shoot with video screen grabs from a July 1994 performance at the Bloomfield Township Public Library featuring the same band that performed on the CD three months later: Gary Schunk on piano, Jaribu Shahid on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums, along with Brad (here on tuba). The tune is Brad’s composition “P.J. Lids” – Same track that appeared on the CD, but without the fadeout…Great Band and Performance !
