Broadway Goes Jazz!
From the 2022 album FULL CIRCLE, jazz singer Gary Brumburgh's most recent release, comes a single be-bop song video of "Happy Talk" from the standard musical SOUTH PACIFIC. The album's theme is New York theatre and Brumburgh has recorded 11 songs from nine classic Broadway musicals (plus CABARET, COMPANY, CITY OF ANGELS, CELEBRATION, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, THE FANTASTICKS, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, OKLAHOMA!) he performed in college, summer stock, Equity/Equity waiver and repertory theatre back when he was an actor and musical stage performer. In the case of SOUTH PACIFIC, Brumburgh co-starred as Lt. Joe Cable opposite legendary Broadway baritone John Raitt's Emile De Becque in a 1989 Los Angeles production.
The CD contains bold, innovative jazz spins of these classic songs by pianist Jamieson Trotter. The video features Trotter, along with Gabe Davis (bass), Christian Euman (drums) and Danny Janklow (alto sax). Shot at Talley Sherwood's Tritone Studios in Glendale, CA by Shaina House and Ben Scholz. Produced by Barbara Brighton.
