Michel Godard (France) – tuba, serpent
Bodek Janke (Poland/Germany) – drums & table

»The quartet held the audience in the palm of its hand, merging Balkan – and particularly Slovenian – sounds into their repertoire,« Oliver Weindling, London Jazz News
"A high concentration of musicality and virtuosity distinguishes the four musicians from many other quartets. The band caused a sensation in Bad Goisern and transformed the tourist destination into a mecca of jazz for two hours. The evening ended with two encores, a standing ovation and sheer enthusiasm from the audience. An extraordinary, great concert." Mag. Yuliya Atzmanstorfer, Salzkammergut.news (Austria)
Vasko Atanasovski ADRABESA quartet
consists of exceptional musicians, brought together by composer and saxophonist Vasko Atanasovski, who is known for collaborating with world-renowned musicians (Hindi Zahra, Living Color, Vlatko Stefanovski ...), his masterful approach to all music genres and exceptional musical oeuvre, with the intention of recording a new album of their own music.
“PHOENIX is a symbol that is very close to me since my early ages. This album is about coming back to my ethno-jazz roots, about new birth of a Firebird.” Vasko Atanasovski
The quartet's musicians are one of the leading virtuoso instrumentalists in Europe and the world; on the accordion is Italian Simone Zanchini, who's been collaborating with Vasko for over 15 years. They have played many albums and concerts together. Zanchini is a superb and a very unique accordion player. In 2016, he received the "Orpheus" Award for Best Jazz Album of the Year in Italy. He has also collaborated with musicians such as Gianluigi Trovesi, Javier Girotto, Paolo Fresu, Han Bennink, Bill Evans, Adam Nussbaum, Jim Black and John Patitucci. He regularly performs worldwide and is a soloist with the Milan Scala Orchestra. Coming from France, is the top tuba player Michel Godard, who has also collaborated with Vasko in the past and at this year's Maribor Festival, where they performed a concert together with the Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra. During his rich career, he has worked with great artists such as Michel Portal, Louis Sclavis, Henry Texier, Enrico Rava, Michael Riessler, Kenny Wheeler, Ray Anderson, Rabih Abou-Khalil and many others.
The fourth member of the band, who plays percussion and Indian tabla drums, is Bodek Janke currently living in Berlin, with whom this will be the first joint production. In 2008, he was awarded the "Jazzpreis Baden-Württemberg", the highest award for jazz musicians in Germany and the "German Records Critics' Award" ("Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik" with CD by Olivia Trummer "Westwind"). In 2010, he was named "Best Soloist of the Year" at the "Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis" competiton in Mannheim. He has collaborated with musicians such as David Liebman, Billy Harper, Ben Monder and Dave Binney.
Joining this musical magic-making as a special guest, is Ariel Vei Atanasovski, Vasko Atanasovski's son and a successful young cellist, student of the Maribor Conservatory under prof. Niko Sajko and the Klagenfurt Conservatory with prof. Igor Mitrovic. He has been active in various fields of music from a young age, and can boast with many performances, international awards and songs written by himself.
Mastery, high energy and eclecticism of the mix of musical styles are well-known qualities of the Vasko Atanasovski ADRABESA quartet. An invitation to an ecstatic, mysterious and heart-wrenching musical journey directed and performed by true masters of music.
