This record piqued my interest years ago when I noticed Little Feat was Chico's backing band. As you may expect, this is jazz with a New Orleans funk feel accented by Chico's LA street beat. The music simmers but doesn't really boil, and the final result is the Meters second cousin. It's fair background music, I love the tone and timbre of Lowell George's guitar, but after the solid first track the music is mediocre. This music definitely is not representative of Chico's sound--if you want pure jazz, check out his band with Gabor Szabo on guitar and Charles Lloyd blowing sax.
