Warthur
Though its first side is as danceable and compelling as ever - the one-two hit of Freak of the Week and (Not Just) Knee Deep representing some of the catchiest work the band have ever done - the politically militant Uncle Jam Wants You gets hopelessly bogged down on its second side, with gospel music goof-offs and overlong military march parodies taking up entirely too much time on the disc. There's just a lack of decent material on this album, and an uncharacteristic reliance on filler which I don't usually expect to find on Funkadelic releases. Still, every band that releases enough albums will sooner or later put out a dud, and Uncle Jam Wants You is Funkadelic's first.
